Harvinder Singh, who won bronze at the Tokyo Games, became the first Indian archer to win a gold medal at the Paralympics, defeating Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek in a lopsided final here on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Indian, who lost to Kevin Mather of the United States in the Tokyo Paralympics semifinals before winning bronze three years ago, defeated Ciszek 6-0 (28-24, 28-27, 29-25).
Harvinder, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics, won five back-to-back matches in a single day, displaying neither tiredness or jitters as he etched his name in history and won India’s second archery medal here.
Both of his legs are affected as a result of the negative effects of dengue therapy he received as a toddler.
