Parliament Budget Session 2026 Updates: The Budget Session of Parliament began on Wednesday with an address by President Droupadi Murmu to a combined sitting, after which both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day. Murmu stated in her lecture that over 10 crore women are now members of Self-Help Groups, with the number of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ exceeding two crore and expected to reach three crore soon. The session will be held in 30 sittings over 65 days, culminating on April 2. The two Houses will take a recess on February 13 and reconvene on March 9 to allow the Standing Committees to consider the Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments.
Economic Survey tomorrow: The Economic Survey will be tabled on January 29, followed by the Union Budget 2026–27 on February 1. Prepared by the Economic Division of the Finance Ministry, under the chief economic adviser, the Survey reviews economic performance and key indicators for 2025–26 and presents an outlook for the next fiscal year.
Pending Bills: The Lok Sabha secretariat has identified nine pending bills, including the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill and the Securities Markets Code, which are currently before the parliamentary finance panel. The first portion of the Budget Session will recess on February 13 to allow standing committees to review grant requests. Political leaders in an all-party conference headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh outlined problems anticipated to be raised during the session and promised the government of their support.
