On Wednesday, Congress MP and northeast leader Gaurav Gogoi launched a no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi-led Central government.

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) announced on Tuesday that it will file a no-confidence motion against the government in order to force it to address boiling concerns such as the Manipur situation.

This followed days of interruption in both Houses of Parliament due to opposition demands for a full examination of the situation in Manipur, where ethnic riots began on May 3.

The BJP has rejected the Opposition’s demand that PM Modi address both Houses on Manipur.

Manickam Tagore, a Congress Lok Sabha MP, stated that a notice of no-confidence motion against the Modi government had been submitted in the Speaker’s office.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, told the media that the no-confidence resolution would be moved.

In a tweet earlier in the day, prominent leader Kapil Sibal stated, “No Confidence Motion. When the Prime Minister lacks confidence to make a speech in Parliament; keeps’maun’ (silence) on crimes against women in Manipur till the Supreme Court responds; keeps’maun’ on Brij Bhushan, claims no territory is seized by China, how can INDIA have faith in him?”

Meanwhile, representatives from INDIA parties gathered in the Rajya Sabha chamber of Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge ahead of the fifth day of the Monsoon Session.

In a tweet, the Congress said, “INDIA wants that there should be a discussion on Manipur in the House, but the Modi government is running away from the discussion. Today, a meeting of opposition parties was held in the chamber of Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha regarding this demand.”

The opposition has been demanding that the Prime Minister make a thorough statement in Parliament Monsoon Session about the Manipur situation. The opposition has also demanded a thorough debate in Parliament.
