Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Friday said he engaged with over 50 global business and industry leaders at a roundtable held in New York.
Taking to the microblogging platform X, he stated that the meeting was hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York in collaboration with the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF).
In a post, the minister emphasized India’s strong economic story, reform-driven business environment, and growing prospects for foreign investors under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
He stated the conversations centered on strengthening India-US trade, investment, innovation, and supply chain collaborations for mutual benefit.
The engagement comes as part of India’s larger efforts to strengthen economic diplomacy with major partner countries, following a series of recent high-level international exchanges targeted at improving trade and investment links.
Earlier this week, the minister stated that while bilateral commerce between India and Canada is now valued at around $8.5 billion, both governments remain dedicated to meeting their shared, ambitious goal of increasing it to $50 billion by 2030.
He also mentioned that he had a full calendar of high-impact engagements in Toronto, including academics, innovation, government, business councils, institutional investors, and the diaspora community.
The three-day tour, which included stops in Ottawa on May 25 and Toronto from May 26 to 28, aimed to boost bilateral trade and economic connections between India and Canada, with a particular emphasis on advancing ongoing discussions for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Earlier in May, the minister stated that discussions had place between him and a delegation led by Jeff Shockey, Executive Vice President, Government Operations, Global Public Policy, and Corporate Strategy at Boeing.
