Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted highlights of his tour to Canada on Saturday, stating that exchanges confirmed “the renewed momentum in India-Canada relations”.
Goyal stated in a social media post titled “Glimpses of my highly productive visit to Canada” that the visit also underlined “shared commitment to advancing mutual growth and prosperity”.
Goyal tweeted a video of his discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, and Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
It captured his speech at the inaugural ministerial plenary session in Toronto, as well as his interactions with industry leaders at a Maninder Sidhu-hosted reception.
The video shows him attending a Canada investment roundtable, speaking with representatives from regional chambers in the India Canada corridor, and meeting members of the Canada India Foundation.
He also visited the Ontario Centre of Innovation and spoke with Indian business delegates, many CEOs, and the leaders of business and industry associations to discuss trade and investment potential.
With bilateral trade between India and Canada currently valued at around $8.5 billion, both governments remain committed to their shared and ambitious goal of increasing it to $50 billion by 2030, Piyush Goyal said as he wrapped up a highly productive and historic three-day visit to Canada, according to an official statement earlier this week.
The three-day visit aims to strengthen bilateral trade and economic connections between India and Canada, with a special emphasis on speeding up the ongoing discussions for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Goyal emphasized India’s thriving startup and innovation ecosystems, as well as how Canada can make important contributions to these high-growth industries. He also emphasized the enormous potential for bilateral cooperation in AI, cleantech, agritech, and deep tech, areas where both countries have complementary strengths.
Goyal spoke with Ontario Premier Doug Ford about ways to strengthen India-Ontario engagement.
The two leaders discussed opportunities for collaboration in manufacturing, technology, infrastructure, clean energy, food processing, and vital minerals – sectors of strategic importance to both sides — while reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties.
