Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brasilia for his State Visit to Brazil. He was warmly received by  Brazil’s Minister of Defence, Jose Mucio Monteiro Filho at the airport. He arrived in Brasilia after attending two day BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from July 6-7. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal stated that taking new strides in India- Brazil steadfast partnership Prime Minister Modi landed in the capital city. He added that PM Modi’s welcome was made delightfully musical by the traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae performance.

Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral discussions with Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on broadening the Strategic Partnership between the two nations in areas of mutual interest. The talks will also include trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health and people-to-people linkages. This will be followed by a delegation level talks. Both the countries will sign MoUs to foster cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The Indian Ambassador to Brazil Dinesh Bhatia had  informed earlier that the four MoUs will be signed during the Prime Minister’s bilateral meetings. These will be on working together on counter terrorism, to mutually share confidential information, cooperate in Renewable energy and Agriculture research. The Prime Minister will then depart for Namibia, that is the last leg of Prime Minister’s five nation visit abroad.

Prime Minister emphasizes the Government’s efforts to further women-led development across diverse sectors

Prime Minister Modi called his Rio leg of Brazil very productive. He said in a social media post that he had extensive deliberations at the BRICS Summit. He complimented the Brazilian President and the Brazilian Government for the work they have done through their BRICS Presidency in making this platform even more effective. He added that his bilateral meetings with world leaders will boost India’s friendship with various nations.

Earlier, speaking at the BRICS summit on a session on Environment, CoP 30 and Global Health in Rio de Janeiro, the Prime Minister said, planetary and human health are interconnected and Indians imbibe reverence towards nature for generations. He emphasised that for India climate justice is no alternative but a moral duty. The Prime Minister said, during the India Presidency of BRICS next year, it will be redefined as ‘Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability’. Mr Modi outlined the potential focus areas for India’s BRICS leadership, stressing on preparedness for unexpected situations.
