On Wednesday,June 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi became India’s longest-serving Prime Minister, having led the Central government for 12 years.
PM Modi surpassed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,399 days in office as an elected Prime Minister.
This comparison is based on Nehru’s term beginning in 1952, when he led an interim administration between 1947 and 1952 before the country’s first general elections.
While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi held office for more than 14 years, her tenure was not continuous, making Modi the country’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister in history. He has served since his first swearing-in ceremony in 2014, receiving additional mandates in 2019 and a remarkable third consecutive term in 2024.
The PM Modi-led government has also undertaken a number of high-profile infrastructure and nation-building projects, including the new Parliament building, Central Vista redevelopment, Kartavya Path, Vande Bharat trains, the Statue of Unity, INS Vikrant, the Kashmir rail link, Noida International Airport, Namo Bharat RRTS, and the Ganga Expressway.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will convene a critical gathering in the national capital on Wednesday to commemorate the completion of 12 years of NDA governance at the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
The meeting, which is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam, is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Modi, top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from all 22 NDA-ruled states and Union Territories, as well as leaders of the alliance’s constituent parties.
According to sources, the NDA is likely to vote a resolution thanking Prime Minister Modi for surpassing the record set by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Senior Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan will attend the event, as will other key NDA figures.
The summit is being held to mark the NDA government’s 12th year in office, and it is likely to focus on the alliance’s accomplishments, future policy priorities, and political roadmap. Key topics of discussion are anticipated to include governance efforts, development programs, and preparedness for forthcoming electoral difficulties.
