Bhubaneswar: All coastal districts and adjoining districts from Ganjam to Mayurbhanj have been put on high alert over the possible formation of Cyclone within the Bay of Bengal (BoB) although its trajectory is not but known, informed Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra.
Mahapatra issued the statement within the form of a video message to the media after holding a preliminary review meeting today with all stakeholders like all line departments, DG Police, Fire Services, NDRF, Coast Guard, INS Chilika and many others.
The Chief Secretary quoted IMD’s prediction on probabilities of formation of a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal by tomorrow and its possible movement in the direction of the coast of Odisha and West Bengal.
He mentioned keeping that in view all line departments like electricity companies, rural water supply, urban water supply, Health department, ODRAF and NDRF teams have been put on alert so that all manpower, material, and many others that are required to deal with this cyclone are organized instantly.
“All tubewells have to be repaired, generators etc required for the operation of piped water supply have to be arranged both in rural and urban areas. That apart, tankers etc will be organized in largescale,” Mahapatra revealed.
The Chief Secretary mentioned that after formation of the cyclone review meetings will be held frequently within the coming two-three days keeping its direction and movement in view.
He informed that process for identifying cyclone shelters and big buildings in largescale have been started together with repairing of tubewells etc have begun.
All that will be required for relief and rescue is being arranged, he added.
Mahapatra mentioned that the entire administration is fully ready to tackle the possible cyclone and as things evolve in the next two-three days will probably be decided in which area more emphasis will be laid.
