Millets, he added, can be a solution to global malnutrition and hunger, and he urged world leaders to celebrate the International Year of Millets with zeal next year. Mr Modi emphasized the other crisis, saying that Climate Change, the Covid Pandemic, and the events in Ukraine have all caused havoc in the world.

He went on to say that global supply chains have been destroyed, and there is a global shortage of essential goods. The Prime Minister stated that we should not be afraid to admit that multilateral institutions such as the UN have failed on these issues.

He stated that all of us have failed to implement appropriate reforms in these areas, which is why the world now has higher expectations from the G-20. Touching upon the issue of the Ukraine crisis, Mr Modi said the world must find a way to return to the path of diplomacy and a ceasefire in Ukraine.

He added the onus lies on our shoulders to craft a new world order in the post-Covid era. Mr Modi said the need of the hour is to show a concerted and collective resolve to ensure peace, harmony and security in the world. Speaking over India’s presidency of G20, he assured the world leaders that when the G20 meets in the holy land of Buddha and Gandhi next year, India will give a strong message of peace to the world.

Mr Modi said, India’s energy security is important for global growth and the world should not encourage any kind of restrictions on energy supplies. The Prime Minister said India is committed towards clean energy and the environment and by 2030, half of the country’s electricity will be generated from renewable sources.

He added that the sustainable supply of time-bound and affordable finance and technology to developing countries is essential for an inclusive energy transition. In conclusion Mr Modi said, during the G20 Presidency, India will work for a global consensus on all these issues.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that during the covid pandemic, India ensured food security for its 1.3 billion citizens and supplied food grains to many needy countries. Speaking at the G-20’s first working session on food and energy security today, Mr Modi stated that the current fertilizer shortage is a major crisis in the context of food security. He stated that today’s fertilizer shortage is tomorrow’s food crisis, for which there will be no solution.
