Share Market close highlights: Sensex down 368pts, Nifty at 24,487; Financial, FMCG top drags

Stock market close highlights on Tuesday, August 12, 2025:

 Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, ended lower today, dragged by Financial, FMCG and Realty stocks.

The Nifty50 closed 97.65 points, or 0.4%, lower at 24,487.40 levels, while the BSE Sensex ended 368.49 points, or 0.46 percent, lower at 80,235.59 levels.

India remains engaged with the U.S. on Section 301 proceedings and for finalisation of a framework agreement

While Bajaj Finance, Trent, and Hindustan Unilever were among the main laggards on the BSE, Maruti Suzuki, Tech Mahindra, and Mahindra & Mahindra were the top gainers.

On the NSE, Bajaj Finance, Trent, and Hindustan Unilever were among the biggest losers, while Tech Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, and Hero MotoCorp were the top gainers.

Wider indices had a mixed finish. SmallCap ended the day 0.04 percent higher, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 0.27 percent lower.

Even though the Nifty Pharma index increased, some pharmaceutical companies reported losses in the first quarter, including Abbott India (down 2.09%), Natco Pharma (down 1.3%), Divis Labs (0.43%), and Marksans Pharma (10.65%).

Nifty Financial, among others, finished the day 0.9% lower, followed by FMCG (0.5%), Private Bank (0.81%), and Realty (0.73%).

However, IT and Nifty Metal both saw gains of 0.38 percent. Nifty Auto increased by 0.56%.
