Stock Market Highlights on Tuesday, May 19, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex lost all intraday gains and closed lower as bank, financial, and metal sectors weighed, while the Indian rupee maintained its historic depreciation versus the dollar.
The Nifty50 closed 31.95 points, or 0.14 percent, lower at 23,618, while the Sensex fell 114.19 points, or 0.15 percent, to 75,200.85.
The rupee fell 25 paise to 96.61 versus the US dollar on Tuesday. It finished at 96.53 per dollar, up from the previous closing of 96.36.
Titan Company, UltraTech Cement, and Tata Consumer Products were among the worst declines in the Nifty50 index.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap finished 0.91 and 1.17 percent higher, respectively.
The Nifty Private Bank declined the most. The Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services both underperformed.
Meanwhile, the Nifty IT, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Chemical have outperformed.
