Stock Market Highlights on Thursday, April 23, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex extended losses into the second day, as investors feared that the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz would exacerbate the energy supply problem.
The Nifty50 closed 0.84 percent, or 205.50 points, lower at 24,173.10, while the Sensex fell 1.09 percent, or 852.49 points, to 77,664.
Trent, Tech Mahindra, and Shriram Finance were the biggest losers in the Nifty50 index.
Broader markets declined along with the main indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.41 and 0.67 percent lower, respectively.
The Nifty Auto, Nifty PSU Bank, and Nifty Realty indices suffered the greatest declines. Meanwhile, the Nifty Pharma index surged the most.
US President Donald Trump stated that the truce announced on April 7 will be in effect until Iran delivers a cohesive plan. However, Iran has said that it will not participate in any negotiations.
Meanwhile, both countries used traffic blockades in the Strait of Hormuz to exert pressure on each other, raising concerns among investors about inflation and GDP prospects.

Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, Adani Energy Solutions, Aurum PropTech, BlueStone Jewellery and Lifestyle, Choice International, Cyient, CIE Automotive India, Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), Infosys, Khaitan Chemicals & Fertilizers, and Tata Capital will all release their fourth-quarter results on Thursday.
