Stock Market Highlights on Tuesday, April 21, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex extended their winning streak to a third session as traders believed that the US and Iran would prolong their ceasefire during their next summit in Islamabad.
The Nifty50 closed 0.87 percent higher, or 211.75 points, at 24,576.60, while the Sensex closed 0.96 percent higher, or 753.03 points, at 79,273.33.
Nestle India, Trent, and Hindustan Unilever were the biggest gainers on the Nifty50 index.
In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices finished 0.49 and 0.88 percent higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty FMCG and Nifty Realty outperformed their rivals. Meanwhile, Nifty Pharma finished as the worst performer.
Both the Iranian and US delegations, together with Vice President JD Vance, are set to begin discussions in Islamabad to negotiate an agreement to end the war in West Asia.
However, tensions between the United States and Iran rose after Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated in a post on X that they do not favor negotiations under threat. They’re also ready to reveal new cards on the battlefield.
Prior to his remark, US President Donald Trump said that if no agreement is reached by the ceasefire deadline, which expires later today, a large number of bombs would go off.
