Stock Market Highlights on Monday, March 2, 2026:
The Indian benchmark indices closed substantially lower, although recovering some of their losses from the intraday lows as US-Iran war concerns impacted on risk-on attitude. Automobile, oil, and gas stocks weighted the most.
The Nifty 50 fell 1.24 percent, or 312.95 points, to 24,865.70, while the Sensex fell 1.29 percent, or 1,048.34 points, to 80,238.85, its lowest level since September 2025.
The NSE Nifty India Volatility Index closed 25.01 percent higher at 17.13.
Larger markets underperformed benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 1.58 and 1.75 percent lower, respectively.
Sectorally, the Nifty Auto ended 2.20 percent lower to become the worst-performing index, while the Nifty Metal increased 0.24 percent to lead sectoral indices.
