Stock Market Highlights Friday, January 24, 2025: The final trading session of the week saw a decline in the benchmark equity indices, the NSE Nifty50 and the BSE Sensex. To close at 76,190.46, the 30-share Sensex dropped as much as 329.92 points, or 0.43 percent. Today, the index fluctuated between 76,985.95 and 76,091.75.
Similar to the Sensex, the NSE Nifty50 closed at 23,092.20, down 113.15 points, or 0.49 percent. The day’s high and low for the Nifty50 were 23,347.30 and 23,050, respectively.
The day concluded in the bears’ favor, with 31 of the 50 stocks that make up the Nifty50 closing lower, led by Trent, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, BPCL, Adani Enterprises, and Mahindra & Mahindra, suffering losses of up to 4.90 percent. In the meantime, Britannia Industries, Eicher Motors, Grasim Industries, Hindustan Unilever, and ICICI Bank were among the 19 constituent stocks that ended in the green, with gains extending up to 2.52 per cent.
Among the larger markets, small-cap stocks were the most affected; Cyient pulled the Nifty Smallcap100 lower by 2.35 percent, while Jupiter Wagons saw a decline of up to 22.80 percent. The Nifty Midcap100 index, meanwhile, finished 1.55% lower.
With the exception of Nifty FMCG and IT, every sectoral index finished lower. The indices of Nifty Realty, Pharma, Healthcare, and OMCs, among others, saw declines of more than 2% at the end. In the meantime, the Consumer Durables, PSU Bank, and Nifty Auto indices all finished below 1%.
