Today’s Stock Market News: The benchmark equity indices on the BSE and NSE pared some of their losses and ended more than 0.3% lower on Monday, tracking global market weakness.

The S&P BSE Sensex dropped 200.18 points (0.34 percent) to 57,991.11, while the Nifty 50 fell 73.65 points (0.43 percent) to 17,241.00. Both indices had opened more than 1% lower earlier in the day and dropped as much as 1.45% in intraday trade, with the Sensex falling to an intraday low of 57,365.68 and the Nifty falling to 17,064.70 before staging a partial recovery and ending with marginal cuts.

India remains engaged with the U.S. on Section 301 proceedings and for finalisation of a framework agreement

Asian Paints, ITC, Titan Company, Reliance Industries, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), Nestle India, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and UltraTech Cement were the top losers on the Sensex pack on Monday, while Axis Bank, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Maruti Suzuki India, and Infosys were the top gainers.
Among the NSE sectoral indices, the Nifty Consumer Durables index fell 1.21 percent, the Nifty FMCG index fell 1.10 percent, the Nifty Media index fell 1.07 percent, and the Nifty PSU Bank index fell 1.01 percent. However, Nifty IT rose 1.06 percent ahead of TCS’s second-quarter (Q2) results.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index fell 220.90 points (0.87 percent) to 25,163.90, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index fell 168.52 points (0.58 percent) to 29,014.41.
