India’s incredible run at the Special Olympics Winter Games continued on the third and fourth days of competition, with athletes adding up to 15 more medals to their total. With this recent success, India’s total medal count has now reached 24, adding to the nine medals won in previous events.
Deepak Thakur and Giridhar won gold medals in the Intermediate Super G M04 and M05 categories, respectively, while Abhishek Kumar took silver in the Novice Super G M01. Radha Devi also performed an outstanding effort, winning the silver medal in the Intermediate Super G F03 category.
Adding to India’s success on the ice, Ziara Porter showcased impressive speed and determination to claim silver medals in 111M F1 event and 222M F2 event of Short Track Speed Skating while Tanshu won a bronze in the 777M M2 category and a silver in 500M M3 category.
The country’s presence in Cross Country Skiing was also felt as Akriti put in a commendable effort to secure a bronze medal in the 50M Classical Technique Final F03.
India’s snowshoeing athletes also performed outstanding performances, adding to the medal count. Vasu Tiwari earned the gold medal in the 50m Race M03 category, while Jahangir and Tanya got silver medals in the 50m Race M04 and F02 categories. Shalini Chauhan added to her score by taking bronze in the 50M Race F03 division. Anil Kumar won gold in the M12 class of the 200-meter race, while Harleen Kaur took silver in the F12 division.
With these accomplishments, Indian athletes continue to shine on the global scene, demonstrating their resilience, hard work, and competitive spirit. The Special Olympics World Winter Games, which will host about 1500 competitors from 102 countries, aim to promote inclusivity in sports by giving everyone an equal shot at recognition.
