Stock Market Highlights today, Monday, September 8, 2025: The benchmark Indian equity indices gave up the most of their gains near the conclusion of the session, but nevertheless closed higher on Monday. The BSE Sensex closed Monday at 80,787.30, up 76.54 points or 0.09 percent from its intra-day high of 81,171.38.
The NSE Nifty50 closed at 24,773.15, up 32.15 points, or 0.13 percent. The index fluctuated between 24,885.50 and 24,751.55 throughout today’s trading.
In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices closed up 0.50 percent and 0.16 percent, respectively.
The Nifty Auto index closed up 3.30 percent, led by Bharat Forge, Ashok Leyland, Motherson Sumi, and Tata Motors. On the other hand, Nifty IT was among the sector laggards, closing down 0.94 percent. Persistent Systems, LTIMindtree, and Tech Mahindra were among the biggest losers in the sector.
On Monday, the market breadth was favorable, with 1,749 of the 3,144 traded equities on the NSE closing higher and 1,285 ending lower. Meanwhile, 110 stocks were unchanged.
A total of 114 stocks reached 52-week highs, while 50 sank to 52-week lows.
The entire market capitalisation of NSE-listed businesses was $5.07 trillion.
