Team India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs, successfully defending their lowest-ever T20 World Cup score. India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs in yesterday’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan chose to bowl first after winning the toss, according to the match brief. India lost all six wickets in 119 runs while batting first. Of these, Axar Patel scored twenty, Rohit Sharma scored thirteen, and Rishabh Pant scored forty-two. Mohammad Amir claimed two wickets, while Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf each claimed three for Pakistan.
Pakistan managed to make 113 runs in 20 overs while losing seven wickets in an attempt to reach the target of 120 runs. Mohammad Rizwan scored 31 runs out of them, Imad Wasim made 15 runs, and Fakhar Zaman made 13 runs. From India’s side, Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets, Hardik Pandya took two wickets and Axar Patel took one wicket.
Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his three wickets at a cost of 14 runs. India has already defeated other teams with similarly low scores. Despite scoring 139 runs, India defeated Zimbabwe in 2016. India beat Bangladesh by 147 in 2016 as well. In 2017, India defeated the English squad despite scoring 145 points.
India skipper Rohit Sharma credited his team’s “never-say-die attitude” on the field after defeating Pakistan in a low-scoring T20 World Cup match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Sunday night.
Admitting that “140 was a good score to defend,” Rohit revealed the team’s confidence in winning, attributing it to the quality of their bowling lineup and the team’s resilience.
“Yeah, I thought there was enough in the pitch to be honest compared to the last two games that we played here. So hence we thought 140 will be a good score to fight and with the bowling line up we have you feel confident that the guys can do the job,” the Indian skipper said after the match
“But again there is a never-say-die attitude in the team. We were only 119 on the board and we wanted you know to make early roads which we didn’t. But then again, halfway through the stage when they were batting, we got everyone together and we said if things can happen to us, it can happen to them as well,” he added.
India will next play the co-hosts USA on June 12 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
