Although anger is a natural human emotion, it’s crucial to manage it to prevent bad effects. Anger can be quite serious if it results in physical altercations, outbursts, or violence.

Anger management issues can negatively impact your relationships and overall wellbeing. Out of control rage can cause issues in your personal relationships, at work, and with your general quality of life.\

Here are 10 ways to control your anger:

  • Count down: When you are angry count down or up to 10. If you’re really mad, start at 100. This counting will help you slow down your heart rate and your anger will subside.
  • Take a breather: If you are angry, start taking deep breathes from your nose and exhale out of your mouth for several moments.
  • Take a walk: Go for a walk or ride your bike as exercise will help you calm your nerves and reduce anger.
  • Find a relaxation word: Find a word or phrase like “Relax,” “Take it easy, and “You’ll be OK” and repeat them it will feel calm or focused.
  • Stretch: Roll your neck and shoulders and it can help you control your body and harness your emotions.
  • Escape: Try to escape the situation that is making you angry. You to a quiet room, close your eyes, and practice visualizing yourself in a relaxing scene. This help you calm down.
  • Listen to music: Music will help you in realigning your emotions. Put your earbuds or slip out to your car to have a jamming session till you feel okay.
  • Stop talking: When you are extremely angry its better to stop talking and you may say something you might regret later.
  • Take a timeout: Take a break and sit away from others. You can take this opportunity to introspect and return your emotions to neutral.
  • Talk to a friend: Share what you are experiencing with a friend and don’t try to suppress your emotions.
