Bhubaneswar: With the Covid-19 graph witnessing an upward trend in Odisha, people in a number of parts of the State particularly in Bhubaneswar are apprehending strict enforcement measures and restrictions by the local administration within the Capital city.
Khordha district has now emerged a Covid-19 hotspot together with Sundergarh district with most active cases. As per the government dashboard, Khordha and Sundergarh district have 756 and 757 active cases, respectively (excluding today’s recoveries).
Till Wednesday, the total active cases in Bhubaneswar stood at 611.
To a media query whether lockdown, weekend shutdown or night curfew would be clamped in Bhubaneswar in view of the rising Covid-19 cases, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary mentioned, “There is no plan as of now to impose any shutdown or evening curfew. However we’re focusing on enforcement and micro-containment zones and closure of the affected areas.”
Chaudhary further informed that already special drives are on for enforcement of Covid-19 norms in numerous parts of the city.
The BMC has also requested owners of all hotels/Kalyan Mandaps/guest houses/convenient halls not to conduct non-essential cultural and other events without permission.
Apart from this, BMC has issued guidelines for all higher educational institutes together with +2 colleges/degree colleges for strict compliance.
In an advisory issued on Thursday, BMC asked the authorities of government and the private colleges to advise students to vacate hostels and return to their homes.
