Volkswagen India is preparing to launch a brand-new mid-size sedan in the country. The new Volkswagen Virtus will go on sale in India on June 9, 2022. The Virtus display units have begun to arrive at dealerships across the country ahead of its official price announcement. Prebookings are already available, and test drives are expected to begin soon.
According to the company, the new Virtus is based on the MQB A0 IN platform and has up to 95 percent localization levels. It is also the segment’s longest vehicle (4,561 mm) in terms of cabin and boot space (521 litres).
The car will be available with a 1.5L TSI EVO engine with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), as well as a 1.0L TSI engine, both of which are equipped with an idle Start/Stop system. The engine will be paired with one of three transmission options: a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic torque converter, or a 7-speed DSG.
When it is released, the car will be available in a variety of engine colours, including Wild Cherry Red, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver, Curcuma Yellow, Candy White, and Rising Blue
Furthermore, manufacturing of the Virtus has already begun at the company’s Chakan facility in Pune, Maharashtra. In India, this new mid-size sedan will be available with two engine options.
The first will be a 1.0-liter TSI engine with 113 hp and 178 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. It will also get a 1.5-litre TSI engine with 148 hp and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine will only be available with a 7-speed DSG transmission. It will compete with the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Hyundai Verna when it is released.
