Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, will finally enter the electric mobility space next month. On October 7, 2022, the company will launch its first-ever electric scooter in India through its new EV subsidiary, Vida. Hero MotoCorp had planned to launch its e-scooter in March 2022, but it was delayed twice due to supply chain issues and is now scheduled for this holiday season.
The Vida electric scooter will be unveiled at the Hero Global Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan. ‘A new era in mobility is about to begin, VIDA – Powered by Hero,’ the company announced to the Bombay Stock Exchange. While we don’t have any specifics on this e-scooter yet, it is expected to be a mass-market product.
It’s worth noting that Hero MotoCorp’s Vida electric mobility sub-brand debuted in March of this year. The company refers to it as a completely new identity for its emerging mobility solutions. Hero MotoCorp’s first electric two-wheeler, the Vida, will be manufactured at the automaker’s ‘Green’ manufacturing facility in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
In terms of specifications, Hero’s Vida electric scooter is expected to feature a mid-mounted electric scooter paired with a lithium-ion battery pack capable of providing at least 120 km of range on a single charge. It will compete directly with the TVS iQube and Ola S1, but it will also compete indirectly with the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, and others. This electric scooter deliveries are expected to begin in late 2022.
