The state government has announced a one-time waiver of outstanding liabilities on vehicles older than 15 years that are scrapped at Odisha’s Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs).
In a recent notification, the Odisha government’s Commerce and Transport department announced that vehicles older than 15 years will be exempt from arrear tax and penalties to encourage scrapping at RVSFs.
In accordance with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways guidelines, the state government has already notified the Odisha Motor Vehicle (Registration and Function of Vehicles Scrapping Facility) Policy, 2022. According to the notification, the policy aims to reduce air pollution while also improving road and vehicular safety.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ directive and the Ministry of Finance’s stipulations, the state government shall allow a one-time waiver of pending liabilities on vehicles older than 15 years from the date of their initial registration that are scrapped at RVSFs in Odisha, according to the notification.
The Commerce and Transport department is pleased to exempt the arrear tax and penalties thereof for a period of one year in respect of vehicles older than 15 years in order to encourage people to scrap their old vehicles, it added.
In a related development, the Commerce and Transport Department has directed all government departments, PSUs, organizations, autonomous councils, and ULBs to scrap vehicles older than 15 years at the RVSFs positively.
“It is requested that the old vehicles of your departments, heads of department, sub-ordinate offices, PSUs, organizations, autonomous councils and ULBs under your administrative control may be scrapped on or before March 31, 2023 at the RVSFs,” said Commerce and Transport department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee in a letter to all the Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Commissioner-cum-Secretaries and Secretaries of various departments of the state government recently.
