Odisha has won the ‘Best State for Sports Promotion’ award at the 2023 Sportstar Aces Awards for the fourth time since the awards’ inception.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will receive this today at a Sportstar-hosted award ceremony in Mumbai. According to an official press release, this annual event is a celebration of sports and athletes and will be attended by a galaxy of renowned athletes from various disciplines.
The honor is the result of the state’s one-of-a-kind sports model, which is based on the pillars of partnership for sporting excellence, competition, coaching, infrastructure, and welfare programs for deserving athletes.
Odisha athletes have brought honor to the state by winning medals at international and national competitions.
The FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, which was held in Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, drew attention and admiration for the state of Odisha in the sports world.
Odisha will host international competitions such as the Odisha Open, the SAAF U20 Championship, the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, the FIBA 2022 (SABA Qualifiers), the FIH Hockey Pro League, and national competitions such as the Indian Women’s League, Aquatic Junior Nationals, the IWLF Youth Juniors and Senior National Weightlifting Championship 2022, the Para Athletics Championship, and the Para Badminton Nationals in 2022.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Odisha government is also prioritizing the development of sports infrastructure in the state.
It is committed to constructing cutting-edge facilities that will serve as a training ground for aspiring athletes.
The iconic Kalinga Sports Complex is one of the country’s finest sports facilities. Several mega sports projects within its premises are nearing completion, including India’s first Indoor Athletics Centre, Tennis Court, Indoor Aquatics Centre, Hockey High Performance Centre, and an elaborate Sports Science Centre, and will play an important role in developing champions of tomorrow for the country.
The Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela was recently inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest fully-seated hockey stadium.
Despite a slew of pandemic-related challenges, the facility, which also houses an Olympic-style Hockey Village with 225 rooms, was built in merely 15 months.
Similarly, Odisha is building 90 multi-purpose indoor halls across all urban areas to promote sports and fitness in society. These are supplemented by a variety of other sports infrastructure, such as swimming pool training facilities, football training facilities, hockey training facilities, and sports complexes.
