The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the launch of an M.A. program in Migration and Diaspora. According to the university, this is the first of its kind to be introduced in India in the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode beginning in the January 2023 cycle.
The program aims to provide professionals with knowledge and understanding of migration governance, diaspora engagement, human trafficking, and labor flow.
The 80-credit MA program is expected to provide students with new opportunities in external and foreign affairs ministries, diplomatic missions, UN organizations, civil societies, and non-governmental organizations.
The program will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of migration processes, the role of diasporas in development, the development-migration matrix, policy decisions, planning and research, international migration regulations, and human trafficking issues. Professionals in the development sector, UN bodies, foreign affairs, cultural associations, tourism, and social entrepreneurs will also find it useful.
Students will receive hard and soft copies of the study material, as well as audio-visual course work and interactive counseling sessions. The course will last one year, beginning with the January-December session.
