The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center here issued a rain or thunderstorm warning with lightning and gusty surface wind for several locations in coastal and interior Odisha on Sunday and Monday.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in isolated areas across 21 districts on Sunday. A hailstorm warning has been issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, and Gajapati. All of these events are expected to occur as a result of a north-south trough line passing over the state and a western disturbance.
The Met has predicted that rain will fall in many parts of Odisha over the next four days. The effects of the westerly disturbance will be felt in Odisha beginning on Sunday. The phenomenon will affect several districts in southern and coastal Odisha.
Rain and lightning are expected in the southern and coastal districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Puri, according to the IMD. During this time, there will be rain and winds of 30 to 40 km/h.
However, rainfall will begin to increase on March 27. On March 27, 11 coastal districts were issued a yellow warning.
Light to moderate thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain are expected to hit Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore districts on Sunday afternoon.
People have been advised to monitor the weather and move to safer locations as needed to avoid being struck by lightning.
Another western disturbance is expected on March 30, but its potential impact on the state is unknown, according to the forecast.
Meanwhile, the highest maximum temperature of 37.6°C was recorded in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sonepur in the last 24 hours, while the lowest minimum temperature of 17.5°C was recorded in Boudh in Odisha’s plains.
