The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won both the Hindol and Atabira Notified Area Councils (NACs) in Odisha’s Dhenkanal and Bargarh districts by a landslide on Wednesday. On April 3, elections for the two NACs were held.
In the Atabira NAC, the BJD won 11 of the 12 Wards, including the Chairperson’s seat, while Congress nominee Dipak Rai won the remaining seat.
Banamali Bariha of the BJD defeated Sabita Bhue by a margin of 4,828 votes to become the Atabira NAC Chairperson. Bariha received 6,565 votes, while his opponent, Bhue, received 1,737 votes. Laxmi Behera, a BJP candidate, finished third with 1,532 votes.
Atabira NAC has approximately 13,520 voters and a voter turnout of 74%.
Similarly, the ruling BJD won 11 of the 16 Wards in Hindol NAC, while the BJP won five seats. Keshab Chandra Pradhan, a BJD candidate, was elected NAC Chairperson with 4,347 votes. Sovagini Pradhan of the BJP and Rita Palei of the Congress finished second and third, with 3,923 and 219 votes, respectively.
Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 16 were won by BJD candidates, while Wards 5, 6, 9, 12, and 13 were won by BJP candidates.
Hindol NAC has a total of 9,863 voters, with an 87 percent voter turnout.
