The well-defined low-pressure region over the northwest and surrounding west-central Bay of Bengal has compacted and changed into a depression, which presently lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the shores of north Odisha and West Bengal. The related cyclonic circulation continues up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestward as height increases. It is expected to pass over Odisha and Chhattisgarh during the following two days.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted on Thursday that heavy rain will fall in various Odisha districts today as a result of the low-pressure region.
The IMD regional center in here has issued Orange and Yellow rain warnings for numerous districts in Odisha today.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 cm to 20 cm) is expected in one or two spots in Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur, and Ganjam districts on Thursday, according to the IMD.
Similarly, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm) has been issued for one or two locations in the Odisha districts of Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Cuttack, and Angul.
