NMMS Scheme : The Ministry of Education’s Department of School Education and Literacy has begun the registration process for the National Merit Cum Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the academic year 2023-24. Economically disadvantaged families will receive the scholarship for deserving students in classes 9 through 12. Students can apply at scholarships.gov.in, the official website of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
The deadline for applying for the scholarship is November 30. The purpose of this scholarship is to lower Class 8 dropout rates and encourage students to continue their studies at the secondary level.
The government offers one lakh new scholarships to selected students in Class 9 every year, and these continue upon their enrollment in classes 10 to 12 in state government, government-aided, and local body schools. The amount of the scholarship is Rs 12,000 per annum.
The Public Financial Management System (PFMS) transfers the scholarship funds directly into the bank accounts of the selected students through electronic transfer using the Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) option.
This award is available to students whose parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs 3.50 lakh. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have obtained at least 55% of the marks or comparable grades in the Class 7 exam. For SC and ST students, the eligibility conditions are lowered by 5%.
The Institute Nodal Officer (INO) will verify the applications on NSP at the institution/school level, which will take place on December 15. The District Nodal Officer (DNO) will perform the second verification, scheduled for December 30.
