With the minimum temperature (nighttime temperature) rising across Odisha, the mercury dropped below 10°C only in four places in the state during the last 24 hours. Twelve places in the mentioned area had minimum temperatures of less than 12°C yesterday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the weather bureau, Koraput had the lowest nightly temperature in Odisha, at 7.1°C. Other locations with evening lows of less than 10°C include Similiguda (8.3°C), G Udayagiri (9°C), and Daringbadi (9.5°C).
In addition, Kirei recorded 10°C, Boudh (10.8°C), Phulbani (11°C), Keonjhar (11.2°C), Nabarangpur (11.5°C) and Sundargarh and Bhawanipatna (11.8°C). The minimum temperatures in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were 17°C and 16.2°C respectively – almost 3°C above normal.
Meanwhile, steel city Rourkela was engulfed by ‘very dense’ fog on Thursday morning disrupting traffic. Dense fog also occurred in Phulbani, Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Koraput, while shallow to moderate fog occurred in Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Paradip, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Chandbali, and Sambalpur.
The IMD has issued yellow warning of dense fog in one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput and Rayagada districts for the next two days.
