On March 5, 2000, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took the oath of office for the first time. Exactly twenty-four years and three months later, he submitted his resignation as Chief Minister.
According to the information, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik left his residence at 11:30 am. On reaching the Raj Bhavan, the CM handed over the resignation letter to Governor Raghubar Das.
Naveen Patnaik’s tenure as CM of Odisha came to an unexpected end after the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) lost the majority in the Assembly elections by barely managing to win only 51 seats.
The party also struggled in the Lok Sabha electoral fight and lost all seats to Bhartiya Janata Dal which won a whopping 20 seats.
It is noteworthy to add that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is the Odisha’s most popular Chief Minister of Odisha. Despite the defeat of BJD, Naveen still remains in the hearts of the millions of people of Odisha.

He would have become the Chief Minister with the longest term if he had been in that position for a record-breaking sixth time.
