Several parts of Odisha are expected to see light to moderate rain, along with lightning and thundershowers, over the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional center on Friday.
The forecast service further stated that a new low-pressure system is expected to build over the Bay of Bengal on October 6, bringing rain to some regions of Odisha and neighboring West Bengal.
On Friday, 21 Odisha districts received a yellow alert for light to moderate rain with thundershowers and lightning. The districts most likely to be affected are Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh. Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are also likely to experience some amount of rainfall today.
According to the IMD, weather conditions are predicted to shift starting Saturday as the intensity of rain decreases. However, numerous places are expected to experience minor rainfall during the following two days.
Meanwhile, the water level in the Hirakud Dam has risen due to heavy rain in the area. When the water level in the dam reaches 630 feet, flood water is released through four gates.
