The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid conditions over many districts in Odisha, which are predicted to last until May 15.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather report, the maximum temperature (day temperature) in Odisha’s districts is expected to climb by 3-5°C during the next 4 to 5 days, with no further substantial change anticipated.
The IMD also projected a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid weather in some sections of the state. On May 11, conditions are expected to persist in one or two locations in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also expected in the afternoon or evening in one or two locations in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangapur, and Nuapada districts. The remaining districts of Odisha are predicted to see dry weather on the same day.
The IMD has also issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds of 40-50 km/h, which are expected to occur in the afternoon/evening. From May 12 to 13, one or two locations in Odisha are predicted to experience heatwave conditions.
Looking ahead, following May 13, the IMD anticipates a ‘Yellow’ warning for heatwave conditions in one or two Odisha locations on May 14 and 15.
