The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow warnings for severe to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in numerous districts of Odisha until July 5.
According to the IMD’s midday weather report, a low-pressure region over the Northwest Bay of Bengal is predicted to travel west-northwest, hitting northern Odisha during the following two days.
On July 1, an Orange warning is in place for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Koraput districts. Yellow warnings are issued for Rayagada, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Deogarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.
For July 2, Orange warnings continue for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur, with Yellow alerts for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Dhenkanal.
Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh all face similar warnings from July 3 to July 5.
The IMD has also urged fishermen not to travel into the sea along and off Odisha’s coast between June 30 and July 2, 2025, owing to severe weather conditions.
Residents are asked to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions.
