From August 31 to September 3, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorm activity with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall throughout several districts of Odisha. Around September 2, a new low-pressure system is predicted to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal, which might make the weather worse.
Due to the possibility of severe to very heavy rain, thunderstorms with lightning, and strong surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph, the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nawarangpur are under an orange alert, meaning they should be ready to take action.
Other districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, and Rayagada, are under a yellow warning, indicating that they should be aware of the potential for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.
Due to rough sea conditions, the IMD has advised fishermen to avoid going out into the sea off the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Odisha for the next five days. It is recommended that residents in the impacted districts remain vigilant and take the appropriate safety measures against potential weather disruptions, such as lightning, rain, and strong winds.
