The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Jay Dholakia, son of late BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, as its candidate in the upcoming Nuapada by-election. This event follows Jay’s recent joining of the BJP, which represents a substantial shift in the constituency’s political environment.
Jay Dholakia’s name has been cleared by the BJP’s central election committee, and he will file candidacy papers in front of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and state BJP president Manmohan Samal.
Jay Dholakia paid a polite visit to Basanta Panda, former state BJP president, to seek his blessings. He also met with local leaders, including NAC Khariar chairperson Sonia Jain, to consolidate support from party workers and ensure unity within the local BJP unit, paving the way for his potential candidacy in the Nuapada by-election.
According to the ECI announcement, applicants can submit nominations until October 20, the deadline for filing. Nominations will be reviewed on October 22, and candidates may withdraw their candidacy by October 24. The by-election for the Nuapada seat is set for November 11, with vote counting taking place on November 14.
The Election Commission of India has also stated that the full electoral process will be concluded by November 16.
