President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Odisha on Monday for a six-day visit to attend religious and academic events in five districts, according to officials.
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and others welcomed President Murmu to the Biju Patnaik International Airport.
She had a ceremonial greeting as several cultural troupes performed at the airport and on the way to Lok Bhavan.
Her plan calls for her to visit events in Khurda, Jajpur, Balasore, Puri, and Mayurbhanj districts during the following few days.
“Elaborate security arrangements have been made in all the places she will visit,” a senior police officer said, adding that special deployments have been made in Bhubaneswar, where the President will stay for four days.
After an overnight stay at Lok Bhavan, President Murmu will travel to Jajpur on Tuesday to pray at the Maa Biraja temple and execute rites at Navi Gaya, a sacred site for performing puja in honor of ancestors.
Public access to the Maa Biraja shrine is prohibited from 5.30 a.m. till the President’s departure on Tuesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, she will be the chief guest at Fakir Mohan University’s convocation ceremony in Balasore before traveling to Puri, where she would conduct ‘pind daan’ at Swetaganga tank on Wednesday morning and visit Shree Jagannath Temple about 7.40 a.m.
Public access to the 12th-century shrine is similarly restricted during Murmu’s stay to Puri.
Later in the day, the President will visit her home area of Mayurbhanj, where she will open a holiday home in Rairangpur, visit a Girls’ Higher Secondary School, reveal a statue of tribal leader Bhanjbir Sunaram Soren, and open a sports complex.
On the penultimate phase of her Odisha journey, the President will visit Simlipal National Park and spend the night on February 5.
Tourist visits to Similipal will also be prohibited for three days beginning February 4 for security reasons, according to a forest department official.
Before heading to Similipal, the President will attend a special event at the Rairangpur Jagannath Temple, where he will meet with tribal women and youth organizations.
Murmu will attend the Black Swan Summit India on February 6, an event co-hosted by the Odisha government and the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) to discuss the impact of AI and future technology stacks on global capability centers, education, and the future of jobs in the FinTech and InsurTech sectors.
Officials said she is scheduled to leave Bhubaneswar for Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
