The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange warnings for many districts in Odisha, anticipating thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hot and humid weather in the next days.
According to the IMD, hot and humid weather are predicted to prevail on March 7 in one or two locations in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Furthermore, the IMD has warned that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speeds of up to 30-40 kmph) are likely to occur on March 8 in isolated locations across several districts, including Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and Puri.
An orange warning has been issued for March 8, expecting thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface wind (up to 40-50 kmph) in isolated locations over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Sundargarh.
According to the IMD forecast for March 8, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind are expected in several other districts, including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi. These districts have been given a yellow alert.
On March 9, the IMD predicts thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface wind (up to 30-40 kmph) in isolated areas across the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur.
“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur” , according to IMD’s March 9 prediction.
Residents in the impacted districts are advised to remain vigilant and take the appropriate precautions to keep safe during the thunderstorms and heat wave.
