Plus II students who are taking the Council of Higher Secondary Education’s Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE) will have the opportunity to retake a ‘improvement examination’ in one subject if they want to enhance their grades.

The CHSE examination committee authorized the decision in a meeting on Monday, and it will go into effect beginning with the current academic year, according to an official.

According to Prashant Kumar Parida, CHSE’s controller of examination, if a student wishes to enhance his or her score in a specific topic for any reason, he or she will be permitted to reappear in that subject.

Only passed out students will be offered the opportunity to reappear in the improvement examination. The results of the improvement examination will be available within two months.

The +2 improvement test will be administered concurrently with the immediate examination or supplemental exams, which are held each year following the completion of the AHSE.

Last year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the implementation of a two-term examination system for Class 10 beginning in the 2026 academic year. While CBSE allows for an improvement test in three exams, CHSE now permits for only one subject.

Similarly, the boards of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Haryana will hold two board exams beginning this year. Karnataka has held three board exams since 2024.
