Share market close highlights: Sensex gains for 2nd day, ends 568 pts up; Nifty near 23,600; metal, auto rise

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights, Tuesday, March 17, 2026: The Indian equities benchmark indices extended their recovery surge for a second day after fluctuating between losses and gains for the majority of the trade.

The Nifty50 finished 0.74 percent, or 172.35 points, higher at 23,581.15, while the Sensex closed 0.75 percent, or 568 points higher at 76,070.84.

The Nifty50 index’s biggest gainers included Eternal, Tata Steel, and Mahindra & Mahindra.

The NSE Nifty India volatility index declined 9.12% to 19.63 during the day. It finished 8.39 percent down at 19.79.

Broader markets closed higher. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 1.07 and 0.78 percent higher, respectively.

Sectorally, the Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto beat the benchmark indices. The Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG were the biggest losers.
