Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, May 6, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex rose in the second half of the trading session as Brent crude prices fell following news that the US and Iran may reach an agreement shortly.
The Nifty50 closed 298.15 points (1.24%) higher at 24,330.95, while the Sensex closed 940.73 points (1.22%) higher at 77,958.52.
According to reports, the United States and Iran are signing a one-page memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the West Asian war and lay the groundwork for more detailed nuclear negotiations, citing two US officials.
The top gainers in the Nifty50 index were InterGlobe Aviation, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and Shriram Finance.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap closed 1.76 percent and 1.93 percent higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Bank, and Nifty Realty performed well. Meanwhile, the Nifty FMCG index underperformed the most.
Brent crude’s May future contract was down 6.94 percent at $102.24 a barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange.
