Stock Market Highlights on Wednesday, June 17, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex closed higher on strong support from metal, PSU bank, and consumer durables companies.
The Nifty50 closed 96.55 points, or 0.4% higher, at 24,085.70, while the Sensex advanced 347.14 points, or 0.45%, to 77,155.62.
Trent, Bharat Electronics, and Hindalco Industries were the top gainers in the Nifty50.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap closed 0.52 percent and 0.79 percent higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank, the Nifty Consumer Durables, and the Nifty Metal performed well. Meanwhile, the Nifty Auto and the Nifty Realty fell the most.
Investors around the world were cautious as they awaited the conclusion of the US Federal Open Market Committee’s rate decision, which is set to be revealed later today. The rate-setting panel is projected to keep the federal fund target rate constant at 3.5-3.75 percent.
Policymakers’ comments on inflation and growth will be widely watched to obtain insight into the world’s largest economy in the aftermath of the recent geopolitical strife.
