The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) called off its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday after the Centre agreed to its primary demands following the departure of Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.
The decision came during a joint press conference in the national capital, where Union Health Minister JP Nadda and CJP leaders met.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda announced the decision, saying the government had agreed to withdraw all police cases filed against protesting students, provide written confirmation of FIR withdrawals, and ensure the highest possible compensation for families of students killed in incidents related to the alleged paper leak controversy.
CJP leaders asked protesters to halt their agitation, stating that the government’s pledges addressed all of the requests voiced during the rally.
Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister, has already resigned, fulfilling one of the CJP’s primary demands.
Saurav Das, representing the Cockroach Janata Party, asked the students to end their demonstration and return home. He stated that the government had accepted all of the agitators’ requests, therefore there was no reason to continue the sit-in at Jantar Mantar.
The demonstration, which had been gaining traction for several days, focused on issues presented by purported paper leaks and the ensuing actions taken against students who raised their voices. Protesters sought not only the dismissal of accusations against them, but also substantial financial help for the families of those who died as a result of the incident.
With the formal acceptance of the demands being on record, organizers and party representatives expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved without further escalation. Students present at the event were asked to discuss the developments between themselves before deciding on the next line of action.
