The Proteas had a disastrous showing with the bat on Day 2, reaching 93/7 in 35 overs in their second innings and have a lead of 63 runs. The pitch has been a mystery to batsmen throughout this Test match. The inconsistent bounce keeps pacers intrigued. Spinners have plenty of turn and bounce. India started Day 2 at 37/1 in their first innings. KL Rahul and Washington Sundar easily increased the score to 75 before Simon Harmer joined the attack. He defeated Sundar with his opening ball and then dispatched Rahul with the second. Gill walked in and quickly left with a neck spasm.
Rahul led the scoring with 39, demonstrating how difficult it is for batsmen on that track. Bavuma was South Africa’s only quality batter in the second innings, helping his team pass the 100-run barrier. Ravindra Jadeja got four wickets on Day 2, while Kuldeep Yadav struck twice.
