Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono arrived in New Delhi early on Wednesday for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
In a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “A warm welcome to Foreign Minister Sugiono of Indonesia on his arrival in New Delhi for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.”
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will preside over the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which will be held by India on May 14-15.
According to the MEA, BRICS Foreign Ministers and heads of delegations from member and partner countries will attend the meeting and make a call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Foreign Ministers from BRICS member nations will meet to discuss global and regional problems of mutual concern, according to the MEA.
On the second day, BRICS member and partner countries will participate in a session titled BRICS at 20: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability. This will be followed by a discussion about global governance reform and the multilateral system.
On September 26, 2025, the BRICS Foreign Ministers met for the last time on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly’s 80th session. India chaired the conference in its position as BRICS 2026’s incoming chair.
India will hold the BRICS chair in 2026, led by the theme of ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability’, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s people-centric and humanity-first approach outlined during the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
BRIC was established at the inaugural meeting of BRIC Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York in 2006. The first BRIC Summit was held in Russia’s Yekaterinburg in 2009.
At the 2010 BRIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New York, it was agreed to expand BRIC into BRICS by including South Africa. South Africa attended the third BRICS summit in 2011.
