The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Odisha ahead of the Raja festival, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
According to the projection, the monsoon will arrive in several regions of south Odisha within the next 2-3 days.
The monsoon current has already reached portions of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, and conditions remain favorable for additional movement into the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has issued a Nor’wester or Kalabaisakhi alert for the whole state, effective today through June 14. Thunderstorms with lightning and high winds are likely throughout this time.
Heavy rainfall is expected in the Koraput and Malkangiri areas on June 11. On June 12, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati districts may see heavy rainfall.
Fishermen in the Odisha coast have been urged not to step into the sea on June 12 and 13.
The Nor’wester-backed rain will persist in the state until June 14, according to the MeT’s weather alert.
