According to a directive from the University Grants Commission, the Odisha government has decided to include the National Cadet Corps (NCC) curriculum in undergraduate (UG) courses beginning in FY 2023-24, with a subsequent consensus reached at a meeting of vice-chancellors held on October 21, 2022.

The curriculum will be implemented in all of the state’s universities and autonomous colleges.

NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Updates: Exam on June 21; know what not to carry

NCC is to be taught as a general elective subject at the UG level, according to the UGC model syllabus. The state Higher Education department issued a notification in this regard yesterday, and all vice-chancellors and principals were duly informed of the government decision.

According to a source, because the NCC curriculum is currently not a part of the academic courses, cadets receive no additional benefit in terms of scoring good marks, and additional marks are not added to their respective total sum. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 attempted to bridge the prevalent gap between curricular and extra-curricular activities.

As a result, an administrative official clarified that the NCC curriculum will now be treated as a general elective credit course under the provisions of the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS).

Notably, the State government’s new decision will benefit cadets at approximately 183 varsities and autonomous colleges that have NCC units. Furthermore, the curriculum will include subjects from the Arts, Science, and Commerce streams, with each subject worth 100 points per semester.

Trained NCC officials will serve as faculties, administering both written and practical exams. Cadets will receive credit points for successfully completing the course, which will help them achieve higher grades and pass the undergraduate exams at Odisha universities and autonomous colleges.
