The Indian Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for 25 districts in Odisha, forecasting strong thunderstorms and hail tomorrow.
An orange alert has been issued for eight districts, indicating thunderstorms with lightning, strong surface wind speeds of 50-60 kmph, and hail, while a yellow notice has been issued for 17 districts, indicating moderate rain with thunderstorms and hailstorms.
“Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hail are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Angul”, read IMD prediction meant for February 21.
The regional weather office has also issued yellow advisories for thunderstorms with lightning in Bargarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Rayagada, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Nayagarh district.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a warning that thunderstorms with lightning and wind gusts of 30-40 kmph are likely in certain districts. The centre has recommended people to stay within during the thunderstorms and avoid going outside.
The trough from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana presently extends from north Bangladesh to Telangana through Gangetic West Bengal, interior Odisha, and south Chhattisgarh. The IMD predicted thunderstorms and hailstorms.
Meanwhile, the regional meteorological office has recommended residents to keep an eye on the weather, seek safe cover during thunderstorms, and observe traffic advisories in metropolitan areas. Farmers have also been encouraged to use hail nets to protect their crops and vegetables from hail.
