The India Meteorological Department projected heavy to very heavy rainfall in numerous areas due to strong monsoon conditions that began on July 18.
For July 18, the IMD has issued an orange warning for the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in these western Odisha districts. Along with this, a yellow warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabrangapur. Heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in these districts as well.
On July 19, the intensity is expected to reduce slightly but heavy rain will continue. The Met Centre of Bhubaneswar has issued a Yellow Warning for Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Balangir districts, with heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places.
The forecast for July 20 shows that heavy rainfall will be confined to northern districts. A Yellow Warning has been issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, where heavy rain is very likely at one or two places.
For July 21, the IMD has again issued a Yellow Warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in these areas.
Because of the expected rainfall, the meteorological bureau has recommended people to be alert and take the required precautions.
Citizens are asked to check for traffic congestion on their route before leaving for their destination and to obey any traffic advisories issued.
The IMD also asked people to avoid frequent visits to regions prone to waterlogging and to avoid staying in susceptible structures in order to protect their safety during heavy rains.
